Town of Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 50 East Hill Road, the Glenwood Condominiums. A resident called 911, after noticing smoke coming out from a neighbor’s door at #7G.
Upon arrival, Canton’s volunteer firefighters observed a large volume of smoke pushing out from behind the structure. Fire crews vented the roof and contained the fire to one room. An adjacent condo also sustained minor damage during the fire.
No one was home at the time of the fire, except for a family pet who did not survive.
The family is unable to return to their home, at this time, and the Red Cross is providing assistance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Canton Fire Marshal’s Office.
In addition to Canton’s Ladder 2, Engine 3, 6 and Canton’s Ambulance, mutual aid response was received from: Avon Volunteer Fire Department, Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, New Hartford Fire Department and Ambulance in addition to Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department.
The dispatch was received on Friday, January 31, 202 at 7:27am. The scene cleared at 11:00am.
