WHO: Town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department was dispatched to an early morning structure fire on the deck of a two story, wood framed residence. Smoke alarms, in the home, alerted the residents to the fire. No injuries were reported.
WHEN: Time of dispatch was 3:34am. The scene cleared at 5:00am, after overhaul of the deck area and thermal imaging of the home to assess damage/extension.
WHERE: 571 Cherry Brook Rd North Canton.
WHAT: Upon arrival, smoke and fire was seen on the back deck. Crews pulled charged line through the front door of the residence, to push back and contain the fire to the back deck.
Canton’s response included: Engines 3 & 6, Ladder 2, Car 10/ambulance. Mutual Aid was received from: Avon Volunteer Fire Department, New Hartford Fire Department, Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department. The Tanker Strike Team was also dispatched – there are no fire hydrants north of Rte. 44, so water sources must be brought in – then canceled.
The fire remains under investigation by Canton’s Fire Marshal.
