FOX61-CT: DEEP responds to hazmat situation at Canton transfer station

CANTON — A hazmat situation has closed down the Canton transfer station on Ramp Road until further notice.

Three employees from the station were taken to the hospital. An unknown substance was found in a rolling dumpster at the station.

Canton, Avon, Simsbury, Hartford, and Burlington’s fire departments all responded, along with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Capital Region Hazmat task force.

The substance has not been identified. There’s no update on the condition of those taken to the hospital.

There is an evacuation of the immediate area but it is not a residential area.
