Canton, CT April 10, 2018…. Only Ben & Jerry’s premium ice cream could bring out crowds of people on a day wrought with a snow storm; rainy skies; and wind.
Yet, the people continued to queue up as the day progressed and the April sun finally came out,
for the 13thannual Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day to benefit the Town of Canton
Volunteer Fire & EMS Department.
Eight hours and thousands of free cones and cups scooped later, Free Cone Day had raised over
$2,000.00 for Canton’s volunteer firefighters, EMTs and Fire Police. This brings the
grand total of donations to the Department, from Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Days – 2005
to 2018 – to over $25,000.00.
From Noon until 8:00pm, Free Cone Day attendees enthusiastically enjoyed tours of:
Canton’s Ladder 2; Engine 4; the new Fire Police vehicle; and Canton’s Ambulance.
Many of the younger patrons, and some older ones too, enjoyed the company of fire
celebrity, Sparky the Dog.
100% of all donations from Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day, will be applied toward the
purchase of new equipment and/or tools for Canton’s volunteer firefighters and EMTs,
and to recruitment of new individuals and retention of current members.
The Town of Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department thanks community
partners, Phil and Brandi Killoran of Ben & Jerry’s and all those who donated for their
continued generosity and support of our work.
