Ben & Jerry’s at The Shoppes Raises Over $1,800.00 for Canton’s Bravest
Canton, CT April 13, 2016…. Only Ben & Jerry’s premium ice cream could bring out
crowds of people on a rainy and windy noontime. And, the people continued to queue
up, as the day progressed and the sun came out, for the 11th annual Ben & Jerry’s Free
Cone Day to benefit the Town of Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department.
Eight hours and 5,000 free cones and cups scooped later, Free Cone Day had raised
$1,810.64 for Canton’s volunteer firefighters, EMTs and Fire Police. This brings the
grand total of donations to the Department, from Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Days – 2005
to 2016 – to nearly $22,000.00.
From Noon until 8:00pm, Free Cone Day attendees enjoyed tours of: Canton’s Ladder 2,
with the American flag raised 100 feet into the air; Engine 4 and the Ambulance. Many
of the younger patrons, and some older ones too, enjoyed the company of fire celebrity,
Sparky the Dog. Assistant Fire Chief, Wayne Goeben was also pleased to report that an
individual, who attended the event, is applying to join the Department.
Department Chief Craig Robbins: “As always, 100% of these donations will be applied
toward the purchase of new equipment and/or tools for our volunteer firefighters and
EMTs, or to recruitment of new individuals and retention of our current members. We
thank our community partners, Phil and Brandi Killoran of Ben & Jerry’s and all those
who donated, for their continued generosity and support of our work.”
