Ben & Jerry’s held its annual Free Cone Day at its franchises across the country on April 14 and the store in Canton donated its proceeds to the Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Dept. Organizers said they gave away 5,000 servings of ice cream during the event. People who made donations received free ice cream and organizers of the event in Canton said it raised $2,173, which brings the proceeds to the fire department to more than $20,000 in the 10 years it has collaborated with the local Ben & Jerry’s store. Proceeds from the event help the fire department purchase equipment and pay for firefighters’ training.
