Ben & Jerry’s at The Shoppes Raises Over $2,100.00 for Canton’s Bravest
Free Cone Day Reaches 10-Year Grand Total of Over $20,000.00 in Donations
Canton, CT April 15, 2015…. As Engine 4 made its way towards The Shoppes at
Farmington Valley, the tones went off. Dispatch redirected the rig and its volunteer
firefighters to New Hartford, for a mutual aid call on a chimney fire.
Thus began the 10th annual Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day to benefit the Town of Canton
Volunteer Fire & EMS Department. The crew did make it back for the Noon opening.
And, the rain held off.
Eight hours and 5,000 free cones and cups scooped later, Free Cone Day had raised
$2,173.07 for Canton’s volunteer firefighters and EMTs; the second highest total
donations in the 10 years that Ben & Jerry’s of Canton has sponsored this national
fundraiser.
This brings the grand total of donations to the Department, from Ben & Jerry’s Free
Cone Days – 2005 to 2015 – to over $20,000.00.
From Noon until 8:00pm, Free Cone Day attendees enjoyed tours of Canton’s Engine 4
and the Ambulance. Many of the younger patrons, and some older ones too, also paid a
visit with fire celebrity, Sparky the Dog.
Ben & Jerry’s of Canton co-owners Phil Killoran and Brandi Morgenthau Killoran
summed up the day: “We want to thank everyone in the community and beyond who
came out. We love supporting Canton’s volunteer firefighters and EMTs.”
Department Chief Richard Hutchings added: “As always, 100% of these donations will
be applied toward the purchase of new equipment and tools for our volunteer firefighters
and EMTs. We thank our community partners, Phil and Brandi Killoran of Ben & Jerry’s
and all those who donated, for their continued generosity and support of our work.”
