Hartford Courant – A fire that broke out early on the morning of Jan. 11 destroyed a small commercial garage on Center Street at the intersection of North Street in the Collinsville section of town, the fire department has announced.
No one was injured in the blaze, which broke out shortly after 3 a.m., but fire department spokeswoman Sylvia Cancella said firefighters found some unusual hazards on the site when they got there. Those included acetylene, which Cancella said is a highly flammable and potentially explosive gas. Also on the site were two 500-gallon propane tanks, she said.
In addition to town firefighters, the fire departments in New Hartford and Burlington helped out. The town police department also evacuated neighboring buildings for a while, Cancella said.
The garage was gutted by the fire and the cause was still being investigated on Monday, Cancella said.
