Farmington Valley Times – The Town of CantonVolunteer Fire & EMS Department spent the better part of Saturday, Dec. 7 laying floors and putting up trim throughout the home of Joe Recupero, a Vietnam War veteran, who resides on Forest Lane in Canton.

“We know and appreciate how it feels to have the Canton community support us,” said Chief Rich Hutchings. “So, we know how meaningful the Purple Heart Homes Project is. We also know what it’s like to leave our families and to put ourselves in harm’s way in service to our community. Joe, and other vets like him, placed himself in harm’s way to protect our freedoms. The least we could do is give him a few hours of our time.

“We’re very proud to be part of making Joe Recupero’s house a home that’s worthy of his service to our town, state and country,” the chief said. “It’s always our goal to leave a scene better off for our having been there. And, that was our goal on Saturday on Forest Lane.”
